Responsibilities

  1. Guide students through all aspects of an instrumental music curriculum.
  2. Encourage and facilitate student involvement in various musical ensembles including concert, marching, jazz, and string orchestra.
  3. Create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
  4. Advocate for district and school music objectives.
  5. Collaborate with fellow educators to enhance the music program.
  6. Oversee assigned supervisory duties.
  7. Maintain student progress records and communicate effectively with students and guardians.
  8. Coordinate performances with choral and orchestra directors.
  9. Organize and keep accurate inventory of musical instruments, uniforms, and sheet music.
  10. Conduct instrumental groups at events and festivals.
  11. Fulfill additional duties as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications
  1. Possess a valid teaching certificate from Washington State with the necessary endorsements.
  2. Exhibit effective classroom management skills for large groups.
  3. Manage student behavior positively and constructively.
  4. Communicate clearly in both written and spoken forms.
  5. Adapt to changes in a constructive manner.
  6. Show enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards education.
  7. Assess student needs and develop effective lesson plans.
  8. Build trust and rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
  9. Set and achieve educational goals.
  10. Foster positive relationships with students.
  11. Maintain a minimum college GPA of 2.5, with possible waivers for specific circumstances.
  12. Have a strong background in instrumental music, including both band and orchestra.
  13. Understand instructional techniques for marching and jazz bands.
  14. Possess a degree in instrumental music or equivalent experience.
  15. Recognize various teaching and learning styles relevant to instrumental music.
  16. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  17. Engage positively with individuals from various backgrounds.
  18. Show commitment to a varied music curriculum.
  19. Willingness to lead extracurricular activities.
  20. Ability to interpret and arrange music.
  21. Commit to professional collaboration and student supervision.
