Position Overview: Product Development Scientist

The Product Development Scientist plays a crucial role within a collaborative team focused on advancing superior agricultural products for our clients. This position involves executing strategic initiatives and coordinating breeding pipeline activities, which encompass experimental design, data collection, and analytics-driven product enhancement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement technical strategies aligned with product concepts and market needs to develop a robust portfolio of improved germplasm.
  • Collaborate with various departments, including Planning, Field Testing, and Data Science, to ensure effective execution of technical strategies and successful pipeline delivery.
  • Create and communicate an annual resource plan that incorporates new Precision Breeding capabilities while considering operational realities.
  • Co-develop and implement innovative experimental designs and data collection methods to enhance decision-making processes in product development.
  • Conduct field evaluations of pre-commercial products, utilizing both data and observations to deepen product knowledge.
  • Work with Plant Health and Sustainability teams to adapt phenotyping methodologies to current climate conditions and management practices.
  • Engage in commercial events to share product knowledge with partners and stakeholders.
  • Drive the commercial deployment of products to improve placement and launch effectiveness.
  • Champion digital transformation by supporting the implementation of Precision Breeding outcomes in product development.
  • Collaborate with Breeding teams to derive actionable insights from historical data to refine breeding strategies.
  • Ensure alignment between R&D and Commercial teams to incorporate customer needs and market trends into selection approaches.
  • Support initiatives related to Sustainability, Safety, Health, and Environment, while fostering a culture of compliance and ethical conduct.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A PhD in Plant or Animal Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, Data Science, or a related field, or a Master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to develop technical strategies, drive innovation, and build cross-functional partnerships.
  • A customer-centric approach with a demonstrated history of identifying needs and delivering sustainable solutions.
