Job Description:

DEPARTMENT/TEAM DESCRIPTION:

• This role is situated within the Plant Biotechnology division and contributes to a collaborative project that merges Plant Biotechnology, Biologics, and Active Ingredient Manufacturing.
• The team's primary objective is to discover innovative traits for crop protection.

POSITION SUMMARY:

• We are in search of a biological data analyst or bioinformatics specialist to analyze environmental microbial genomic data related to metabolic pathways and modeling.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and execute workflows to analyze microbial metabolic pathways derived from individual genomes and environmental metagenomes.
• Model potential metabolic pathways based on environmental metadata to forecast conditions for metabolic engineering and management.
• Establish and implement workflows to predict enzyme reactions from microbial genomes and metagenomes with xenobiotics.
• Collaborate virtually with a diverse team of scientists across various locations to manage data and develop, implement, and document workflows and models on remote computing platforms.
• Independently prioritize, assess, implement, and troubleshoot methodologies and tasks to achieve desired outcomes.
• Communicate results, updates, inquiries, and troubleshooting steps effectively through written and verbal methods to the team.
• Thoroughly document results and processes for future reference.

REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES:

Education Requirement(s):

• 7+ years of experience, including advanced education (e.g., MS + 5 years, PhD + 1-2 years, etc.).

Skill & Competency Requirements:

• Five or more years of experience with Python, R, and Bash programming.
• Proven experience in conducting scientific research utilizing DNA and/or RNA sequencing technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to document research findings through oral presentations and peer-reviewed publications.

Preferences:

• Experience in metabolic pathway prediction, particularly with ModelSEED or similar software.
• Familiarity with biochemistry and microbial biochemical transformations.
• Experience in analyzing microbial community structures and the factors influencing them.
• Proficiency with COBRAToolbox or related Python tools.
• Experience with AWS or other remote computing systems.
