Position: Product Development Scientist

Purpose: The Product Development Scientist plays a crucial role within a multidisciplinary team focused on developing superior crop varieties tailored for the North American market. This position is responsible for executing strategic initiatives and coordinating breeding pipeline activities, which include experimental design, data collection, and analytics-driven advancements in customer-focused products.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement technical strategies aligned with product concepts and market needs to create a robust portfolio of enhanced germplasm products.
  • Collaborate with partners in planning, field testing, nursery operations, and data science to ensure effective execution of technical strategies and successful pipeline delivery.
  • Develop and communicate a comprehensive resource plan that incorporates new precision breeding capabilities while addressing operational realities.
  • Co-develop, test, and implement innovative experimental designs and data collection methods to enhance decision-making processes in product development.
  • Conduct field evaluations of pre-commercial products, leveraging both data and field observations to deepen product knowledge.
  • Work alongside Plant Health/Product Systems and Sustainability teams to adapt phenotyping methodologies to contemporary climate conditions and management practices.
  • Engage in commercial and customer-facing events to effectively communicate product knowledge to partners and growers.
  • Drive the commercial deployment of products, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and improving product placement and launch success.
  • Champion digital transformation by supporting the development and implementation of precision breeding outcomes for product development.
  • Collaborate with breeding teams to extract actionable insights from historical data to refine breeding strategies.
  • Ensure alignment across R&D and commercial teams to incorporate customer needs and market trends into selection approaches.
  • Support initiatives related to sustainability, safety, health, and compliance, fostering a culture of integrity and respect.

Who You Are:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A PhD in Plant or Animal Breeding, Quantitative or Statistical Genetics, Data Science, or related fields, or a Master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to develop technical strategies, drive innovation, and build cross-functional partnerships to address business challenges.
  • A customer-centric approach, with a track record of identifying customer needs and delivering timely, sustainable solutions.
