About the Role

Plymouth Housing is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for providing financial leadership and expertise to support the organization's mission and goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Management: Oversee the financial management of a portfolio of low-income apartment buildings, including general ledger maintenance and reconciliation, cash management, and financial statement preparation.
  • Leadership: Serve as a lead for select departmental areas of responsibility, including grants, donations, real estate development, commercial tenants, capital projects, or payroll.
  • Financial Analysis: Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements, and analyze financial data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Grant Management: Prepare and review grant invoices, maintain grant information tracking workbooks, and collaborate with the Compliance Specialist to ensure all funder reporting deadlines are met.
  • Compliance: Monitor state and federal reporting requirements and submit all required reports, registrations, and licenses on time.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Accounting Manager and other team members to ensure the smooth operation of the accounting department and provide support as needed.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Accounting or Finance, or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in accounting and financial analysis, with a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting best practices.
  • Skills: Strong analytical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to identify key information and important trends.
  • Software: Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software, with experience with MIP Fund Accounting software a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Nonprofit Accounting Experience: Experience with nonprofit accounting, grants, and public funding.
  • Property Management Accounting: Knowledge of low-income housing development and operations and/or property management accounting.
  • Payroll Experience: Experience in payroll preparation and payroll tax reporting.
