About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled Optical Coatings Process Specialist to join our esteemed Focal Plane Operations Process Engineering team. This department excels in the research, design, and production of cutting-edge focal plane arrays and advanced vision systems. The successful candidate will possess a robust background in infrared optical coatings and will play a pivotal role in guiding a dynamic team of engineers and technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and assess specifications for optical coatings, focusing on performance metrics, environmental resilience, and quality standards.
- Engage in modeling and designing coatings for internal manufacturing processes.
- Conduct trade studies to optimize strategies for optical coatings.
- Lead process development initiatives aimed at enhancing yield, throughput, and safety.
- Establish requirements and qualification plans for new equipment acquisitions.
- Oversee process ownership for vacuum coating tools utilizing e-beam evaporation or ion beam sputtering, including the creation of work instructions and yield improvement strategies.
- A degree in a relevant STEM field, coupled with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Process or Manufacturing Engineering within Optics, Electro-Optics, or Microelectronics. Alternatively, an advanced degree with 3 years of relevant experience is acceptable.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government issued security clearance is mandatory.
- Hands-on experience with electron beam, thermal evaporation, or ion beam sputtering technologies.
- Ability to operate in a cleanroom environment while adhering to safety protocols.
- Proficiency in engineering software, including MATLAB or Python.
- Experience in designing optical coatings using specialized modeling software.
- Familiarity with metrology equipment for the characterization of optical coatings and components.
- Understanding of statistical process control and experimental design methodologies.
