About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Optical Thin Films Process Engineer to join our team at RTX Corporation. As a key member of our Focal Plane Operations Process Engineering department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced coating technologies for our semiconductor and focal plane array manufacturing processes.


Key Responsibilities
  • Coating Technology Development: Design, model, and develop optical coatings for manufacturing in-house, ensuring spectral performance requirements, environmental and chemical exposure requirements, durability, and surface quality requirements.
  • Process Improvement: Manage process development and improvement projects, including novel processing techniques, yield increase, throughput, and safety improvements.
  • Equipment Procurement: Develop requirements and qualification plans for new equipment procurements, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Process Ownership: Provide process ownership of one or more vacuum coating tools using e-beam Evaporation or Ion Beam Sputtering, including writing and certifying work instructions and defining yield improvement plans.

Requirements
  • Education: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, and a minimum of 5 years' experience as a Process or Manufacturing Engineer in an Optics, Electro-Optics, and/or Microelectronics environment.
  • Clearance: The ability to obtain and maintain a US Government issued clearance is required. U.S. Citizenship is required as only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct Experience: Direct experience with electron beam, thermal evaporation, or ion beam sputtering technology.
  • Cleanroom Environment: Ability to work in a cleanroom environment wearing frock garments.
  • Engineering Computing: Experience in engineering computing, including MATLAB, Python, or other related languages.
  • Optical Coating Design: Experience in designing Optical Coatings using optical coating modeling software.
  • Metrology Equipment: Familiarity with metrology equipment and characterization of Optical Coatings and/or optical components.
  • Statistical Process Control: Knowledge of statistical process control and design of experiments.

This role is an onsite role - Goleta, CA.


The salary range for this role is $85,000 - $179,000. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.


This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
