Position Overview

The Volunteers of America Eastern WA Northern ID is dedicated to providing a secure and supportive environment for youth aged 13-17 throughout the year. Our organization not only offers shelter but also implements transformative programs that deliver essential medical services, nourishment, and vital resources to vulnerable young individuals in our community.

Many of the youth we serve face significant challenges, including homelessness, financial instability, and various health issues. These young people often possess unique survival skills developed through their experiences, which may include navigating systemic barriers.

Work Schedule and Availability

Shifts will vary based on scheduled events and may include weekends, evenings, and holidays. Staff members are expected to be on-call and may need to cover additional shifts on a rotating basis, with at least one week of on-call duty every four weeks.

Note: We offer both weekday evening and weekend day shifts, with flexibility to adjust hours based on individual availability.

Key Responsibilities

To excel in this role, candidates must effectively perform the following essential duties:

  • Show respect and consideration for all youth, regardless of their circumstances.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and state regulations.
  • Notify appropriate authorities as required.
  • Understand and comply with food safety guidelines.
  • Enforce shelter rules and maintain necessary documentation.
  • Handle reception duties, including answering calls and managing inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate logs for visitors and services.
  • Conduct intake assessments for new youth and communicate with guardians.
  • Distribute hygiene products and essential items to participants.
  • Assist with meal preparation and cleanup.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Effectively communicate upcoming events and responsibilities to participants.
  • Maintain on-call logs during on-call rotations.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
  • This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position is $20.00, with an additional $0.50 per hour for night shifts.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience working with children or two years of relevant education.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Eligibility for Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC) licensing.
  • CPR/First Aid certification within six months of hire.
  • Valid Food Handler's Permit.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Negative TB test results prior to employment.
  • Successful completion of background checks.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with at-risk youth.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
