Position Overview - School Bus Driver

The primary responsibility of a School Bus Driver is to ensure the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school. Our commitment to safety is unwavering, as we prioritize the well-being of the children entrusted to our care. It is essential that students arrive at school prepared and ready to engage in their educational activities.

All candidates for the Driver position, including those with a commercial driver's license, will start as a Driver in Training. Our organization is recognized for having the most skilled drivers in the industry, thanks to our substantial investment in training and employee development.

A Driver in Training will receive instruction from our experienced staff to acquire a commercial driver's license (CDL) and any necessary endorsements, while also familiarizing themselves with our company policies and procedures. Upon successful completion of the training program and meeting all requirements, the Driver in Training will transition into a Professional Driver role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver safe and dependable transportation services by operating a school bus or designated vehicle along a fixed or variable route.
  • Uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct and personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to a supervisor.
  • Arrive for duty punctually and maintain the scheduled route in a safe manner.
  • Assist passengers in evacuating the vehicle during emergencies.
  • Promptly report any accidents or incidents in accordance with company policy.
  • Adhere to company policies regarding student and passenger management.
  • Communicate effectively with relevant personnel regarding issues and procedures.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Complete all necessary documentation (including route changes, time cards, and vehicle repair requests) and submit them promptly.
  • Foster a cooperative atmosphere with colleagues, supervisors, customers, and passengers while promoting company goodwill.
  • Safely utilize vehicle equipment, including wheelchair lifts, radios, and emergency tools.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Additional responsibilities may apply for Paratransit Drivers based on location.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old; for Tennessee School Bus Drivers, the minimum age is 25 as per state law.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain all valid state licenses and required certifications to operate company vehicles.
  • Must meet physical and medical standards and pass substance abuse screening; as a safety-sensitive employee, random substance abuse testing will be conducted per company policy.
  • Must successfully complete all training requirements.
  • Must practice defensive driving and maintain safe driving habits to prevent accidents.
  • Compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, district, and contract-specific driver requirements is essential.
