Position Overview - School Bus Driver

The primary responsibility of a School Bus Driver is to ensure the safe and timely transportation of students to and from educational institutions. All candidates for the Driver position, including those with a commercial driver's license, will start as a Driver in Training. Our organization invests heavily in training and development, ensuring that our drivers are among the best in the industry.

As a Driver in Training, you will receive instruction from our experienced staff to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) and any necessary endorsements. Upon successful completion of the training program and meeting all position requirements, you will transition into a Professional Driver role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver safe and dependable transportation services by operating a school bus or designated vehicle along a fixed or variable route.
  • Uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct and personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to a supervisor.
  • Arrive on time for duty and maintain a punctual route while prioritizing safety.
  • Assist passengers in evacuating the vehicle during emergencies.
  • Promptly report any accidents or incidents in accordance with company policy.
  • Adhere to company policies regarding student and passenger management.
  • Communicate effectively with relevant personnel regarding any issues or procedures.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, including route change sheets and vehicle repair requests, and submit them promptly.
  • Foster a cooperative environment with colleagues, supervisors, customers, and passengers while promoting a positive company image.
  • Safely utilize vehicle equipment, including wheelchair lifts and emergency tools.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Additional responsibilities may apply for Paratransit Drivers based on location.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 21 years; 25 years for Tennessee School Bus Drivers per state regulations.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain all necessary state licenses and certifications to operate company vehicles.
  • Must meet physical and medical standards and pass substance abuse screenings; as a safety-sensitive employee, random screenings will be conducted.
  • Successful completion of all training programs is required.
  • Must demonstrate defensive driving skills and maintain safe driving practices.
  • Compliance with all relevant federal, state, county, district, and contract-specific driver requirements is essential.
