Position Summary

The Aquatic Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons utilizing aquatic facilities. This role involves close supervision and adherence to established safety protocols.

Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the Aquatic Coordinator and works alongside Facility Supervisors and Aquatic Assistants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute lifeguarding duties in accordance with the latest safety standards set by Jeff Ellis and Associates, Inc. International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP).
  • Prevent accidents by enforcing facility rules and regulations, ensuring a safe environment for all users.
  • Maintain order and discipline in and around the pool area, seeking supervisory assistance when necessary.
  • Perform light maintenance and cleaning tasks to uphold the cleanliness and safety of pool decks, restrooms, and surrounding areas.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records, including chemical logs and incident reports during shifts.
  • Comply with all terms outlined in the ILTP Lifeguard License Agreement.
  • Facilitate special events and programs, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for participants.
  • Contribute to the organization's mission of enhancing community well-being through recreational activities and events.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment
Work is conducted in both indoor and outdoor settings within a dynamic aquatic environment, characterized by noise and frequent interruptions. Employees may encounter varying weather conditions, including heat, wind, cold, rain, and snow. Physical demands include the ability to sit, walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and lift. Candidates must be capable of standing or walking for extended periods, up to 8 hours per shift, and possess manual dexterity for lifeguarding tasks. Effective communication skills are essential, as is the ability to meet vision requirements for near and far acuity. Physical strength is necessary to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted and 100 pounds with assistance.

Qualifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pool rules and regulations governing the Aquatics Department.
  • Physical capability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, and lift.
  • Ability to safely lift 25 pounds independently and 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with members and staff of all ages in a respectful manner.
  • Must possess and maintain the ILTP/CPR certification throughout employment.
  • Minimum age requirement of 15 years.
  • Successful completion of a drug and background check is mandatory.

Education and Experience
