Position Overview

The State of Minnesota is seeking a qualified individual to fulfill the role of American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter Specialist. This position is crucial in providing professional ASL interpreting services to facilitate communication for employees, applicants, and clients within the department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality ASL interpretation for various departmental activities, including meetings, training sessions, and interviews.
  • Coordinate with external interpreting resources when additional support is necessary.
  • Assist the Equity, Access, and Inclusion Office by managing records related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and providing intake services for ADA accommodations.
  • Engage in periodic travel to community events as required.

Work Environment

This full-time position offers the flexibility of telework arrangements, which will be discussed during the hiring process. Some in-office presence may be required as directed by management.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • At least 1.5 years of experience in providing Sign Language interpretation services.
  • Possession of National Interpreter Certification or a recognized legacy certification.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Deaf Culture and intercultural dynamics.
  • Ability to apply the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Proficiency in interpreting ASL across various settings.
  • Valid driver's license or reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years of experience in Sign Language interpretation.
  • Experience in a governmental or state employment setting.
  • Familiarity with federal and state laws relevant to disability services.

Physical Requirements

Candidates should be able to stand or sit for extended periods and occasionally move equipment or materials.

Additional Information
