Position Overview:

The State of Minnesota is seeking a dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter Specialist to provide professional interpreting services. This role is essential in facilitating communication for employees, applicants, and clients within the Department of Revenue.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality ASL interpreting services for various department-sponsored activities, including meetings, training sessions, and interviews.
  • Coordinate with external interpreting resources when additional services are required.
  • Support the Equity, Access, and Inclusion Office by managing ADA case records and assisting individuals seeking accommodations.
  • Engage in periodic travel to community events as necessary.

Work Environment:

This position offers flexibility with telework options, allowing for a balance between remote and in-office work as directed by management. Employees are expected to reside in Minnesota or a bordering state.


Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • 1.5 years of experience in Sign Language interpretation.
  • National Interpreter Certification or a recognized legacy certification.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Deaf Culture and intercultural dynamics.
  • Ability to apply the RID Code of Professional Conduct ethically.
  • Proficiency in interpreting ASL across diverse settings.
  • Possession of reliable transportation or a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years of experience in Sign Language interpretation.
  • Experience in a state employment environment.
  • Capability to oversee interpreting services and develop training presentations.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and occasionally move equipment.
