Position Summary:

The Contract Accountant plays a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of contracts and grants. This position is responsible for comprehensive project accounting, including revenue tracking, expense management, and billing processes. The accountant will generate financial reports for a designated portfolio of grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and manage budgets and awards within the accounting framework.
  • Prepare and submit financial documentation, including invoices, billings, and funder reports for assigned projects.
  • Conduct monthly reviews of project finances, addressing any discrepancies and collaborating with relevant teams for resolution.
  • Assist in internal and external audits, ensuring adherence to financial regulations and standards.
  • Organize and maintain adjusting entries based on monthly financial data from various offices.
  • Manage electronic records related to accounting activities, ensuring proper documentation and filing.
  • Generate and maintain internal financial reports and reconciliations, as well as reports required by government agencies and other funding bodies.
  • Provide guidance and support to program and project finance teams.
  • Engage in special projects and additional responsibilities as required by the role.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related discipline; a master's degree is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, particularly with federally funded initiatives. Experience with USAID and international development is advantageous.

Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel capabilities. Familiarity with accounting software is essential; experience with Deltek CostPoint is a plus.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with an emphasis on clarity and cultural sensitivity.

Language Skills: Proficiency in English; knowledge of additional languages is beneficial.

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel may be necessary.

Position-Specific Skills: In-depth understanding of US Government accounting principles, regulations, and cost principles, along with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Work Environment: Standard office or remote setting.

Eligibility: Candidates must be authorized to work in the US.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is between $85,000 and $105,000, with most candidates expected to be at the midpoint. Winrock offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a 10% 403b annual contribution, excellent healthcare coverage, and paid time off.
