Certified Medical Assistant

Job Summary
As a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Orthopedics West Ashley Medical Pavilion, you will play a vital role in providing quality patient care under the direction of a physician or licensed healthcare provider. Your duties will include rooming patients, taking vitals and health history, documenting in an electronic medical record, giving injections, and assisting with minor procedures.
Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate calibrations, cleaning, and scheduled maintenance of clinical/lab equipment as required by OSHA, DHEC, and MUSC.
- Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, communicating as appropriate. Document test and exam results and communicate the plan of care to the patient.
- Maintain exam room supplies, instruments, and cleanliness of the patient care environment as required by OSHA, DHEC, and MUSC.
- Maintain a timely flow of patients, assist with scheduling appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability, and screen patients for appropriate information and provide patient education as necessary.
- Observe, record, and report patient physical and psychosocial condition, reactions to medication and treatments to the physician, respond to and triage phone calls, and call in orders as ordered by the physician.
- Triage patients and prepare for physician exams and procedures, assist with exams, procedures, and treatments as necessary, and instruct patients in collection of samples and tests.
Requirements
- CMA: High school diploma or equivalent, completion of an accredited medical assisting program, and one year of patient care experience preferred.
- LPN: Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program, licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state, and current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
Physical Requirements
Continuous requirements include performing job functions while standing, walking, and sitting, ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions, and maintain 20/40 vision corrected.
