Orlando Health is seeking Medical Laboratory Specialists (levels I, II, III, and Senior) throughout our healthcare system, offering a variety of schedules and locations tailored to your interests and expertise. Role Responsibilities

The Medical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for analyzing blood and bodily fluids utilizing both automated and intricate manual techniques, adhering to established protocols to guarantee the highest quality laboratory results within designated timeframes.

Key Duties

  • Verifies routine results and quality control data for precision and dependability following prescribed guidelines.
  • Conducts, assesses, and documents all quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Receives guidance and direction from more experienced colleagues or supervisors.
  • Exhibits proficiency in computer systems, including ordering, resulting, and inquiry functions.
  • Ensures appropriate utilization and preparation of reagents and supplies.
  • Communicates critical results to the patient care team.
  • Regularly reports any unusual findings to the immediate supervisor.
  • Consistently updates work activities and pending tasks to the incoming technologist.
  • Responds to technical inquiries related to work as necessary.
  • Maintains regular, punctual attendance in accordance with Orlando Health policies and applicable regulations.
  • Adheres to all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs specimen collection, receiving, and processing as required.
  • Answers phone calls and greets visitors to the department.
  • Maintains current knowledge to effectively instruct students or other personnel.
  • Actively participates in the laboratory quality improvement initiatives.
  • Follows established policies and procedures to comply with regulatory and accrediting agency standards.
  • Practices infection control and safety protocols, ensuring a clean and organized workspace.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding patient records and departmental matters at all times.
Qualifications

Education and Training
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree is required.
  • Successful completion of a clinical laboratory training internship is necessary.
Licensure and Certification
  • Must hold a current Florida license as a Medical Technologist in the relevant specialty or specialties required by the assigned laboratory section(s).
  • National certification such as from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB), or American Medical Technologists (AMT) is preferred.
Experience
  • Experience requirements vary by level:
    • Level I: No prior experience required.
    • Level II: Minimum of one year of experience.
    • Level III: Minimum of two years of experience.
    • Senior: Minimum of three years of experience.
