About the Role
The Assistant Operations Manager plays a crucial role in the success of Mattress Firm by assisting in the efficient day-to-day operations of multiple functions within their assigned distribution center. This position involves supervising members of the distribution center team and contributing to meeting organizational financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the efficient day-to-day operations of the distribution center, ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Contribute to meeting overall financial objectives of the distribution center compared to budget, analyzing financial data to identify areas for improvement.
- Create and foster an environment of trust, open two-way communication, and cohesive team effort, promoting a positive and productive work environment.
- Ensure alignment with strategic vision and communicate organizational mission and values to the team, promoting a culture of excellence and customer satisfaction.
- Communicate with team members through regular and frequent meetings, providing clear and concise information and updates.
- Hold one-on-one meetings with direct reports at least twice a month, providing feedback and coaching to support their growth and development.
- Ensure adherence to operational processes, policies, and procedures, maintaining a high level of quality and efficiency.
- Ensure the distribution center meets company standards on appearance, cleanliness, and functionality, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
- Identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement initiatives in the distribution center, implementing changes to improve processes and efficiency.
- Facilitate resolution of customer service issues, providing prompt and effective solutions to customer complaints.
- Verify driver payroll for accuracy, ensuring that all financial transactions are accurate and up-to-date.
- Conduct required physical cycle counts, review discrepancies, and make appropriate corrections, maintaining accurate inventory levels.
- Ensure use of proper safety equipment and maintain a safe working environment by ensuring adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
- Complete all required training modules and certifications prior to the due date, staying up-to-date with the latest industry knowledge and best practices.
- Ensure all safety policies and procedures are followed to ensure a safe work environment for all, promoting a culture of safety and well-being.
- Communicate professionally with all internal and external contacts, maintaining a positive and respectful tone in all interactions.
- Follow all Company policies and execute Company standards on appearance and functionality as well as appropriate brand representation, promoting a positive image of Mattress Firm.
- Communicate any concerns or issues to leadership to ensure proper efficiency of department and company operations, providing timely and effective solutions to problems.
- Execute team member performance improvement plans, progressive discipline, and terminations when appropriate per Company policy, maintaining a fair and consistent approach to employee management.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in monthly DC-wide meetings to communicate organization and DC wins and opportunities, providing updates and insights to the team.
- Assist Loss Prevention with loss prevention audit and safety audits, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed and maintained.
- May be responsible for safety and other training and periodic retraining to all team members and contract employees in the DC, promoting a culture of safety and well-being.
- May monitor employee time records and review and approve paid time off and leave of absence requests in accordance to policy and procedures, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
- May participate in interviewing and hiring process for potential DC team members, promoting a positive and inclusive approach to recruitment.
- May manage the DC in the absence of the DC leader, providing leadership and guidance to the team.
- May be involved in coaching conversations and administering disciplinary actions, maintaining a fair and consistent approach to employee management.
- May lead or participate in daily stand up meetings at the beginning of each shift or team meeting, promoting a culture of collaboration and communication.
- May take an active role in onboarding and training new DC team members, providing support and guidance to ensure a smooth transition.
- Execute company initiatives and other activities requested by supervisor, promoting a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, staying up-to-date with the latest industry knowledge and best practices.
- Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Contribute ideas on ways to optimize or improve the team, the department, and the Company, promoting a culture of innovation and excellence.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
