Overview:
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is where patients recover following surgical procedures. PACU is situated on the third floor of the Pavilion and Kelemen building, with an additional area on Pavilion 2. Patients in this unit may either be discharged home after their procedure or admitted to the hospital, depending on the nature of the procedure and the required recovery time. If admitted, patients are transferred to the appropriate floor for ongoing recovery and discharge. The PACU caters to a diverse patient demographic, from infants to the elderly. Here, patients are closely monitored as they awaken from anesthesia administered during their procedures.

Based on the procedure and physician orders, patients will either be discharged home or admitted for further care.


Short Description:


The Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver who, as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, takes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients over a designated timeframe. This role involves supervising and delivering care to these patients using the nursing process, including the therapeutic use of self.

Adheres to established policies and procedures

Engages in open communication with internal stakeholders and supervisors

Delivers outstanding customer service, effectively interacting with all levels of staff, management, and physicians

Embraces Cooper core values

Performs additional duties as required

Experience Required:
1 year of Critical Care experience required

PACU experience preferred

Education Requirements:
Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing

License/Certification Requirements:
Current NJ-RN License (Registered Nurse)

Current BLS (Basic Life Support)

Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

Must obtain within 3 months of hire: Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Preferred:
Current CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) or Current CPAN (Certified Perianesthesia Nurse)
