Overnight Grocery Team Leader

OBJECTIVE: Demonstrates exceptional customer service across all facets of the role. Oversees and engages in all activities of the night crew; liaises with the Grocery Manager or Store Director, ensures adherence to Company policies, and manages Department orders and stock levels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Aids the Grocery Manager in steering the grocery department's operations, including supervising and training night crew personnel.
  • Directs and participates in all night crew tasks to enhance sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction within the grocery section. Reports any disciplinary incidents to the Grocery Manager and Store Director. Maintains communication with the Grocery Manager and Store Director regarding night crew functions. Trains and oversees associates in all night crew tasks, policies, and procedures. Supervises overall store operations during night shifts as instructed by the Store Director.
  • Ensures the quality of all products; rotates, stocks, and organizes products, discards expired and spoiled items, and maintains the backroom. Cleans and dusts shelves regularly.
  • Assists in the processes of ordering, receiving, storing, stocking, inventory management, and display construction. Operates necessary equipment such as hand trucks, six-wheel carts, pallet jacks, and ladders. Upholds a safe, secure, and sanitary working environment.
  • Collaborates with the Grocery Manager in planning and organizing regular and seasonal merchandise needs as well as special sales initiatives.
  • Guarantees cost efficiency, product quality, and inventory levels by verifying orders against invoices, auditing product case contents, and accurately completing necessary documentation.
  • Enforces Company and Division operational and merchandising policies and practices. Manages shrinkage. Prevents damage and sale of unsafe or expired products. Assists in the reclamation process.
  • Fosters an environment of enthusiastic customer engagement with a focus on prompt, friendly, and courteous service. Maintains positive vendor relationships.
  • Implements Company loss prevention and security protocols during after-hours operations.
  • Responsible for executing all job functions accurately, safely, and with integrity.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned and required.

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must exhibit friendliness and courtesy. Must take initiative and maintain composure when interacting with customers, co-workers, and vendors, as well as possess the ability to concentrate amidst interruptions and customer complaints.
  • Ability to collaborate with others and function as part of a team. Ability to work independently without supervision during store closure.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods. Frequently reaches, lifts, stacks, and maneuvers objects weighing up to approximately 80 lbs., from floor level to overhead. Pushes or pulls fully loaded hand trucks, six-wheel carts, or pallet jacks. May climb ladders. Utilizes safety cutters and cleaning supplies.
  • Mental alertness is essential for the safe and accurate completion of work tasks and for performing repetitive tasks accurately.
  • Requires knowledge of basic mathematics, inventory management, storage, merchandising, and shipping and receiving procedures.
  • Mental dexterity and good hand-eye coordination are necessary for safely performing repetitive movements.
  • Must be available to work nights, with potential weekend and holiday shifts. Scheduled hours may vary. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Regular attendance is mandatory.
  • Requires the ability to cover various positions throughout the store as needed.
  • Knowledge and capability to implement emergency procedures in case of equipment and software malfunctions.
  • Must adhere to Company policies, including grooming standards and dress code.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
  • May occasionally encounter temperatures of 28 ̊ Fahrenheit while handling products in a cooler and approximately -20 ̊ Fahrenheit in a freezer.
  • Working conditions consist of a temperature-controlled store environment. Exposure to varying temperatures while working in the loading and receiving area. Occasional exposure to outdoor environments with fluctuating temperatures.
