The Summit Center is seeking a skilled Adapted Physical Education Specialist to provide physical education services to students with developmental disabilities. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering APE services, collaborating with classroom staff, and creating an effective classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver physical education services to students with developmental disabilities, tailoring instruction to meet individual needs.
- Collaborate with classroom staff to ensure seamless integration of APE services into the educational program.
- Organize and maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment that promotes physical activity and social interaction.
- Assess student progress on a regular basis, collecting data to inform instruction and make data-driven decisions.
- Administer evidence-based instructional strategies to promote physical fitness, coordination, and overall well-being.
- Manage behavioral challenges through positive reinforcement techniques and de-escalation strategies.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physical Education or a related field.
- Experience working with students with special needs is preferred.
- New York State Certification as a Physical Education Teacher is required.
