Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lithography Production Specialist is responsible for overseeing various lithography-related projects within the organization. This role involves monitoring project timelines and ensuring deliverables align with client expectations, both internal and external. The specialist will collaborate with cross-functional teams to guarantee that all project specifications, deadlines, and schedules are adhered to.

This position also entails providing technical assistance to the lithographic production line, focusing on enhancing operational efficiencies, supporting machine operators, and coordinating troubleshooting efforts. The specialist will be engaged from the initial commissioning phase through to operational turnover, requiring a proactive problem solver who acts as a technical resource for production infrastructure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support lithographic operations as a Press Operator, including but not limited to:
  • Promoting artistic lithography while collaborating with artists to produce editions.
  • Supervising and mentoring apprentice printers.
  • Setting up and operating lithographic presses to print various materials and designs.
  • Installing printing plates on machine rolls using appropriate tools and gauges.
  • Adjusting feed guides, back and side gauges, and rollers as necessary.
  • Regulating ink flow by adjusting gears and fountain keys.
  • Inspecting printed plates to ensure clarity and registration meet specifications.
  • Monitoring the printing process and removing defective plates as needed.
  • Conducting quality checks to maintain high standards of printing.
  • Observing drying oven controls to ensure proper ink curing.
  • Continuously seeking ways to improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and streamline processes.
  • Accurately entering production data into computer systems to track output.
  • Maintaining a clean work environment and adhering to industry regulations.
  • Responding to alarms and warning signals promptly to prevent accidents.
  • Documenting plant processes and recording production metrics.
  • Following all company policies, including safety and quality standards.
  • Reporting unsafe operations to supervisors immediately.
  • Safely operating material handling equipment such as dollies and forklifts.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in lithography.
  • Completion of degree(s) from an accredited institution; experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience with motor controls, installations, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Proficiency in operating manufacturing machinery.
  • Familiarity with various printing equipment is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
  • Knowledge of inventory control and ordering processes.
  • Ability to manage time and schedules effectively.
  • Capability to uphold quality control standards.
  • Extensive understanding of lithographic techniques and processes.
  • Experience in printing press operations and workflow management.
  • Ability to train apprentice printers in lithographic principles and techniques.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and information access.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining lithographic equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL FACTORS:

This role primarily operates within a manufacturing facility, with daily interactions with other departments. The work environment may include exposure to various weather conditions, extreme temperatures, and chemical fumes. The position requires continuous use of vision, hearing, and speech, with significant standing and walking (approximately 90% of the time). Physical demands include lifting, carrying, and moving objects, with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Safety equipment such as goggles and steel-toed shoes is required.

HOURS / SPECIAL CONDITIONS: This is a first-shift position, with schedules that may vary based on operational needs. Flexibility in working hours, including potential extended days and weekends, is essential.
