Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Academic Support Specialist to join our team at the University of North Florida. The successful candidate will provide administrative support in the area of academic advising, working collaboratively with university staff to ensure departmental and organizational success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support in academic advising, including developing and conducting best business practices.
  • Work collaboratively with university staff to ensure departmental and organizational success.
  • Assist in developing and implementing departmental processes and programs.
  • Recommend policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of departmental programs.
  • Perform one or more advising administrative functions, including responding to inquiries and providing information to students and families.
  • Assist with front desk duties, including greeting visitors, answering phone calls, and scheduling appointments.
  • Collect and analyze data as appropriate, with discretionary use under FERPA rules.
  • Assist university administrators and institutional groups in resolving specific academic success and/or registration problems.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization.
  • Or a high school diploma and four years of experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Directly related college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in customer service setting required.
  • Experience in higher education admissions/enrollment services experience strongly encouraged.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills (both spoken and written) are required.
  • Must possess a strong sense of the importance of customer service.
  • Must be well organized.
  • Must have capacity to learn and implement strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Must have strong computer skills.
Working Conditions

This position requires good interpersonal skills because it is often the first contact with customers of the BCH Advising Office. The position may require occasional weekend/evening work to assist/participate in University events and program orientations/informational sessions.
