Job Title: Medical Transcription Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Transcription Specialist to join our team at Lancaster General Health. As a Medical Transcription Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of medical records.

Job Summary:

The Medical Transcription Specialist will be responsible for transcribing dictation into pathology reports, formatting surgical pathology reports, and pulling previous case reports and slides as requested by pathologists. You will also be responsible for screening and handling telephone interactions for pathologists, including reading complex surgical pathology reports and coordinating requests for frozen section exams in the operating room.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Transcribe dictation into pathology reports with high accuracy and attention to detail
  • Format surgical pathology reports from requisition forms, pathologist assistant's gross descriptions, and pathologist's dictation of a diagnosis
  • Pull previous case reports and slides as requested by pathologists
  • Screen and handle telephone interactions for pathologists, including reading complex surgical pathology reports and coordinating requests for frozen section exams in the operating room
  • Maintain records and files permission forms, certificates for cremation, mass burial, autopsy permission, and legal requests
  • Evaluate and prepare requests, specimens, slides, and documentation for selected send-outs
  • Handle documentation, resulting, and distribution of consultation reports and specialized testing
  • Manage the Extra Departmental Review documentation for pathologists
Requirements:
  • High school diploma
  • Degree from a medical secretarial school or equivalent experience
  • Typing 60-65 words per minute minimum
  • One (1) year experience as medical secretary/medical transcriptionist with complex medical terminology and professional interpersonal/telephone communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) or more years medical secretary/medical transcriptionist with surgical pathology terminology and professional interpersonal/telephone communication skills
Physical Requirements:

This position requires sitting frequently, standing frequently, walking occasionally, bending rarely, pushing rarely, pulling rarely, kneeling/squatting rarely, reaching occasionally, twisting rarely, balancing rarely, climbing rarely, and lifting light objects.

Working Conditions:

This position involves exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
