At Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, we are seeking a highly skilled Transcription Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our pathology department, you will play a critical role in assisting pathologists in the documentation and reporting of pathological findings.
Key Responsibilities:- Evaluate pathology cases for correct and complete documentation/history, including requests from pathologists for additional information as needed.
- Transcribe dictation into pathology reports, formatting surgical pathology reports from requisition forms, pathologist assistant gross descriptions, and pathologist dictations.
- Pull previous case reports and slides as requested by pathologists or other agents.
- Screen and handle telephone interactions for pathologists, including reading complex surgical pathology reports, coordinating requests for frozen section exams in the operating room, and medical-legal requests.
- Maintain records and files permission forms, certificates for cremation, mass burial, autopsy permission, and legal requests, evaluating each form for completeness and correctness.
- Evaluate and prepare requests, specimens, slides, and documentation for selected send-outs.
- Handle documentation, results, and distribution of consultation reports and specialized testing.
- Manage Extra Departmental Review documentation for pathologists.
- High school diploma
- Degree from a medical secretarial school or equivalent experience
- Typing 60-65 words per minute minimum
- One (1) year experience as a medical secretary/medical transcriptionist with complex medical terminology and professional interpersonal/telephone communication skills
- Two (2) or more years of medical secretary/medical transcriptionist experience with surgical pathology terminology and professional interpersonal/telephone communication skills
