Job Summary

The Clinical Coding Associate position is an entry-level role that involves participating in the institution's Coding Apprentice Program. The successful candidate will be trained in coding rules and regulations, as well as payor guidelines, and will be responsible for performing entry-level coding on less complex accounts and encounters.

Key Responsibilities

Participate in the Coding Apprentice Program and complete all learning modules and associated exams
Perform entry-level coding on less complex accounts and encounters
Review and assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes to professional services
Follow all coding rules and regulations, as well as payor guidelines

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
No experience required, but up to two years of healthcare-related experience is preferred
ICD-10 certification and completion of a coding program or certification are preferred

Work Schedule

The Clinical Coding Associate will work a hybrid onsite/remote schedule, requiring onsite work a few days per week. The training schedule will be approximately six months onsite, with a hybrid schedule thereafter.

Certification

Possession of one of the following certifications is preferred: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist - Professional (CCS-P), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Professional Coder - Apprentice (CPC-A).
