UPMC Your Care is seeking a Full-time Advanced Care Paramedic to work various 10–13-hour shifts between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday.

The Advanced Care Paramedic plays a crucial role in the UPMC Your Care program for Medicare beneficiaries, delivering urgent and episodic medical assistance to members in their residences or other locations. This position operates under the guidance of a physician and a nurse clinical care coordinator, collaborating with a diverse team of healthcare professionals to provide exceptional, member-focused, and economically efficient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exemplifies professional paramedic practice, demonstrating a commitment to mentoring others. Identifies opportunities for enhancing clinical quality and workplace efficiency. Fosters positive relationships among colleagues within a supportive work environment.
  • Conducts comprehensive member assessments, including history-taking and clinical examinations, utilizing diagnostic tools such as ECG and point-of-care laboratory testing to evaluate symptoms and concerns. Recognizes geriatric syndromes, including falls, functional decline, sleep disorders, delirium, dementia, and polypharmacy.
  • Ensures safe and efficient responses to all requests, adhering to established standards, policies, and procedures. Engages in projects aimed at advancing the capabilities of the team. Contributes to complex case reviews by summarizing clinical and social histories, current medications, and healthcare resource utilization.
  • Maintains operational readiness by performing regular equipment and medication checks as per the established schedule.
  • Operates a company vehicle safely, minimizing distractions while driving, and provides navigation and communication support to colleagues during responses.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum of three years of clinical experience in prehospital or hospital settings.
  • At least six months of experience within the department is required. A professional contribution must be selected from departmental, hospital, or system goals, approved by administration. Candidates must achieve a Solid/Strong/Good rating on performance evaluations to qualify for promotion and maintain this status.
  • Must be eligible for medical command authorization by the Medical Director, possess reliable transportation, and be willing to travel within the designated service area. Successful completion of the prescribed orientation program, including classroom training, clinical rotations, educational competencies, and on-the-job training, is required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex environment, manage multiple priorities, and utilize specialized equipment is essential. Candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination, including a fitness-for-duty assessment and hearing evaluation.
