About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Paraprofessional II to join our team at Edmond Public Schools. As a key member of our special education department, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of our students with exceptional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist special education students in receiving the services mandated on their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide instructional support and services under the direct supervision of a fully certified teacher.
  • Support students with needs such as safety, academics, social, behavioral, and physical, while promoting student independence.
  • Assist the teacher with classroom preparation and management, including organizing instructional materials and maintaining documentation.
  • Supervise designated students in various educational settings, such as the classroom, playground, and special activities.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Schoolwide Title I sites require Paraprofessionals to have completed 48 semester hours of college coursework or obtained an associate's (or higher) degree, or pass the ParaPro Assessment or pass the Work Keys test with a bronze level or higher.

Former experience with children, particularly special needs children, is preferred. You must also be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, write simple correspondence, and effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations.

Physical Demands

The physical demands of this role include standing, walking, sitting, and talking or hearing. You may occasionally be required to reach with your hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. You must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds from a standing, kneeling, or crawling position.

Work Environment

This role will be based in the Edmond Public School District facilities, outdoors during various types of weather, and in a variety of educational settings. As a Paraprofessional, you will be in regular contact with students, the general public, and other EPS personnel.

Estimated Salary

The estimated salary for this role is $15.67-$17.65 per hour, plus a $5,000.00 stipend, totaling approximately $31,000-$35,000 per year.
