Position Summary
As a Victim Support Specialist, you will provide essential services and advocacy for individuals affected by violent crimes and their families. This role involves collaborating closely with the Albuquerque Police Department to assist detectives and officers in notifying next of kin, responding promptly to victim inquiries, and facilitating communication between case agents. You will be instrumental in connecting victims with community resources and services, ensuring a seamless transition from police support to prosecutorial advocacy. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining training programs for law enforcement personnel and community organizations.
This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Human Services, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a related field; and
Three (3) years of experience working with crime victims.
Preferred Knowledge
- Understanding of New Mexico Victims' rights within the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of the criminal justice system.
- Familiarity with victim services principles and practices.
- Proficiency in business letter writing and basic report preparation.
- Record-keeping practices.
- Resources and benefits available to crime victims.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention methods and techniques.
- Research and analysis methods.
- Relevant Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- English language usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Ability to identify and collaborate with community organizations for resource allocation.
- Familiarity with modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment.
- Proficient in business letter writing and report preparation.
- Professional and compassionate approach to service delivery.
- Ability to handle sensitive and stressful situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Provide guidance and assistance for a wide variety of needs and concerns.
