Position Overview:
Join our dedicated team at Racker, where we focus on fostering the growth and development of children with disabilities in an inclusive preschool environment. Our mission is to create a nurturing atmosphere that encourages learning through play, emphasizing each child's strengths. The children in our care are typically aged 3 to 5 years, and our classroom team includes Special Education Teachers, Teacher Assistants, and Teacher Aides, alongside Daycare Teachers and various clinical services such as Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapies. This role is designed to be dynamic, as the Supportive Classroom Aide will rotate through all seven classrooms.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
This is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours per week, with a competitive pay rate of $17 per hour. Additionally, this role comes with a comprehensive benefits package.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist individual children in the classroom as assigned.
- Support the overall needs of the classroom under the guidance of the lead teacher.
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher to review IEPs and relevant information to enhance children's instructional and social-emotional growth.
- Communicate effectively as part of the team, participating in necessary meetings.
- Maintain personal and program documentation as required.
- Observe therapy sessions to facilitate the application of skills learned in therapy within the educational context, following the therapists' recommendations.
- Contribute to a positive and professional environment for both children and colleagues, ensuring confidentiality and courtesy.
- Offer creative ideas and demonstrate initiative to enhance the educational setting.
- Receive and implement feedback from the classroom teacher and site director.
- Maintain regular attendance according to the established work schedule and attend team meetings as requested.
- Provide direct care support to children, including assistance with toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, and positioning.
- Participate in required training sessions in accordance with program regulations.
Qualifications:
- Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED; must have fingerprint clearance and clearance from the New York State Central Registry.
- Skills/Abilities: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience: At least one year of relevant experience.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to assist children physically; capable of lifting up to 40 pounds; able to engage in repetitive movements such as kneeling, bending, and quick movements to ensure child safety.
