Nursing Assistant

We are seeking a skilled Nursing Assistant to join our team on the 3rd Floor Medical Surgical Unit at UNC Health Care in Smithfield. As a Nursing Assistant, you will provide direct and indirect patient care in a hospital setting, working under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician.
Responsibilities- Assist physicians and other healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations.
- Observe, collect, and document patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.
- Provide assistance to patients and their families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital experience, and discharge.
- Provide care/treatments to patients as outlined in the plan of care, including vital sign measurement, specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, and supportive patient interactions.
- Provide direct personal care to patients for routine activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with ambulation.
- Provide indirect care to patients and assigned areas, including cleaning the work area, changing linens, re-stocking supplies, and transporting patients/supplies/specimens.
We require a Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Prefer six (6) months of nursing assistant experience and fluent in verbal and written English language.
Work EnvironmentThis is a full-time position with 3 12-hour shifts, working 0645-1915 and 1845-0715 with every other weekend. Holidays are rotated among staff. Each shift is staffed with a charge nurse and nurses are paired with an NA teammate to assist with care. Nurse-to-patient ratios on the unit are typically 1:5 or 1:6.
