As part of Berkshire Hathaway's insurance operations, we leverage our esteemed brand, robust financial standing, and the expertise of our international team of professionals, characterized by their outstanding capabilities and integrity.

We are committed to a values-driven culture where respect, integrity, excellence, collaboration, and passion shape our identity and business practices. We celebrate diversity in backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, striving to cultivate an inclusive environment that empowers all team members to contribute their best. Our unified team is dedicated to fostering a culture where every individual is recognized for their contributions.

Position Summary:
BHSI is excited to announce an opportunity for a Lead Actuarial Analyst to become a vital part of our Global Actuarial Team. This role is based in either our Boston or New York offices and is ideal for a candidate who demonstrates both exceptional analytical skills and strong character. Our dynamic and innovative culture requires an individual who is intellectually curious, self-driven, and a collaborative team player.

As a member of the North American Casualty Team, this role involves responsibility for pricing large accounts and conducting comprehensive analyses to support our experience and exposure rating models. The individual will engage in regular communication with the Casualty underwriting team and actuaries worldwide, becoming an integral asset to the overall team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain quantitative diagnostic tools for underwriters to price individual risks and manage business portfolios.
  • Collaborate effectively with the actuarial data and analytics team to improve processes and uphold high data integrity standards.
  • Deliver insights into the company's operations using the appropriate tools for each task (e.g., SQL queries, Excel).
  • Provide technical assistance to underwriters in Excel and SQL as required.
  • Leverage external data sets to enhance pricing methodologies for underwriter support.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training in fields such as computer science, actuarial science, mathematics, economics, or statistics.
  • Currently pursuing the FCAS designation.
  • Completion of at least four actuarial exams is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Intermediate to advanced VBA skills are highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with SQL or R is advantageous.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A keen desire to learn from and share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Effective time management skills, capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously.

What We Offer:

• A competitive compensation package along with exciting career growth opportunities for motivated individuals.

• A dynamic, action-oriented environment focused on doing what is right for our customers, colleagues, and stakeholders.

• A non-bureaucratic organization that values simplicity over complexity and emphasizes individual excellence within a team framework.

The base salary range for this position in New York is $95,000 to $130,000, with eligibility for annual bonuses; compensation is determined based on relevant skills and experience. We value our team members for their capabilities and character, reflected in our exceptional culture.

Note: Compensation will be commensurate with experience. This job description is not exhaustive; team members may perform other related duties as necessary to meet the organization's ongoing needs.
