Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational efficiency of our facility. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position is tasked with diagnosing, repairing, and conducting preventative maintenance on a variety of machinery and equipment. The ideal candidate will proactively identify potential mechanical and electrical issues to minimize downtime.


Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and address emergency situations effectively.
  • Safely navigate and work at heights of up to 200 feet and in confined spaces.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in fabrication, electrical schematics, engineering drawings, power transmission, pneumatics, welding, and cutting.
  • Possess knowledge in light industrial electrical systems, hydraulics, and basic computer operations; prior experience in feed mill operations is preferred.
  • Complete miscellaneous tasks as assigned by management.

Additional Duties
  • Engage in special projects and related responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiarity with safety protocols, inventory management, and maintenance procedures.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Proficient in using computer systems for data management.
  • Understanding of technical and mechanical systems relevant to operations.

Abilities:

  • Maintain high standards of quality control and effectively troubleshoot issues.
  • Exhibit initiative and the capacity to work with minimal oversight.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Adapt to flexible working hours, including on-call availability and rotating weekends.

Experience and Training
  • Preferred: Coursework in a technical field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience in industrial or production settings.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications such as Excel and Word.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Occasional use of a keyboard and repetitive motion.
  • Ability to bend, squat, and lift up to 55 pounds.
  • Constant visual acuity and frequent reading tasks.
  • Frequent decision-making and concentration required.
  • Regular communication in person and via phone.
  • Exposure to noise and close-up work.

Skills

The role requires proficiency in using various hand and power tools, including:

  • Welding and fabrication techniques.
  • Plumbing and electrical skills.
  • Automotive and forklift maintenance.
  • Operation of packaging equipment and pumps.
  • Experience with boilers, compressors, and instrumentation.
  • Machining and PLC programming.
  • General building repairs and MIG/Stick welding.
  • Operation of palletizing robots.

Working Environment

The Maintenance Mechanic will work in both indoor and outdoor settings, subject to varying noise levels and environmental conditions. Some responsibilities may require working outside standard business hours, including weekends and holidays. Occasional travel to other company locations may be necessary.
