Key Responsibilities of the Instruction Librarian:

A. Work Schedule: 40 hours per week as determined in collaboration with the Supervisor.

B. Instructional Services:

  • Facilitates orientation sessions for new library patrons to clarify available services, resources, and policies.
  • Designs and conducts training workshops for library users on various services and resources.
  • Creates and updates instructional materials for library resources as requested by the Head Librarian.
  • Develops and maintains research guides as needed or upon request from the Head Librarian.

C. Reference and User Services:

  • Delivers reference assistance at the service desk, which may include evening and weekend shifts.
  • Provides online reference support through the library's reference system, potentially including evening and weekend hours.
  • Guides library users in utilizing both print and digital research tools.
  • Assists users with their research inquiries.
  • Supports students with the use of copiers, printers, and computers.
  • Aids faculty and staff in operating library audiovisual equipment.
  • Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of the library's collection and resources.
  • Handles circulation tasks such as checking in and out library materials and maintaining accurate circulation records.

D. Collection Development:

  • Engages with designated academic departments for collection development and promotes new user services and online initiatives.
  • Participates in the management, evaluation, weeding, and preservation of materials in assigned subject areas.
  • Recommends both print and electronic resources for acquisition in designated subject areas using established selection criteria.

E. Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and trains clerical staff and work-study students in various library functions.
  • Delegates clerical tasks to clerks and work-study students as necessary.

F. Additional Duties:

  • Collects data for statistical analysis and prepares reports for submission to the Head Librarian.
  • Assists with cataloging and processing of materials as required.
  • Participates in annual inventory activities.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.

G. Other Responsibilities as Assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications:

Education: A minimum of a Master's Degree in Library Science is required.
