Position Overview:
The Estimator plays a crucial role in generating precise estimates for projects based on construction drawings and specifications. This position collaborates with the Senior/Lead Estimator to determine costs associated with materials, equipment, subcontracted services, production activities, and labor requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in all facets of subcontractor and supplier estimating and bidding processes.
- Draft, proofread, review, and submit both private and public proposals competently.
- Engage with subcontractors and material suppliers to formulate estimates, achieve cost reductions, and resolve discrepancies.
- Analyze construction documents and specifications to ascertain estimated costs.
- Collaborate with Operations Teams, Project Managers, and administrative staff during the preconstruction phase to assess plans and specifications for constructability and general project requirements.
- Ensure compliance with bidding regulations and project goals.
- Prepare and present proposals to current and prospective clients.
- Manage multiple bids concurrently while adhering to deadlines.
- Utilize and maintain proficiency in internal estimating systems and software.
- Implement quality assurance controls in estimating to minimize risk and exposure.
- Monitor changes and issues in scope and revenue, reporting them to senior management.
- Administer RFQ and RFP solicitations effectively.
- Maintain effective communication and information transfer with the project team.
- Review subcontractor and supplier bids for compliance with contract requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in estimating construction projects.
- Ability to interpret and follow construction documents.
- Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., HCSS, HeavyBid, PlanSwift, BlueBeam, MS Excel, MS Word).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with analytical and numerical abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with external clients while demonstrating commercial awareness.
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Leadership qualities and the ability to build effective working relationships.
- Familiarity with financial and project management principles.
- In-depth knowledge of research and data analysis methods.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
Education and Experience:
B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, along with a minimum of four years of construction experience, including at least two years in estimating.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to see and interpret written communications, distinguish colors, and perceive distances accurately. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment and navigate construction sites safely.
