The Business Consulting Services practice offers extensive internal and performance audit services to clients across the Western United States. We assist clients in implementing solutions through policy and procedure development, organizational redesign, process enhancement, and training.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Compliance and Internal Audit Specialist to join our team. This multifaceted role will concentrate on providing grant management, compliance assistance, and internal audit services primarily for governmental, tribal, and not-for-profit organizations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct project initiation and planning activities while developing compliance monitoring programs and processes.
  • Oversee subrecipient performance and reporting monitoring.
  • Execute and lead compliance evaluations, assess financial report submissions, and formulate findings and recommendations.
  • Perform internal controls assessments, internal audits, policy and procedure formulation, and operational evaluations.
  • Engage in consulting activities, including conducting interviews, reviewing documentation, performing various analyses, and preparing client deliverables such as findings, recommendations, and reports.
  • Collaborate with clients to comprehend current business practices, identify improvement opportunities, define new processes, and create or update policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is preferred; a Master's in Accounting, MBA, or MPA is desirable.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, ideally with government entities or not-for-profits; CPA, CIA, CGMA, or CFE designation is preferred.
  • Experience with grant management and internal controls audits.
  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Governmental Auditing Standards (GAGAS), the Yellow Book, and standards from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is advantageous.
  • Understanding of financial and operational aspects of not-for-profits and local governments is preferred.
  • Strong writing skills for report preparation, findings documentation, and recommendations presentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to analyze problems, think critically, and devise innovative solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint).
  • Willingness to travel as necessary, approximately 20-30%.
