Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Technician, Large Animal to join our team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The successful candidate will assist veterinarians with all aspects of marmoset colony oversight, including tracking and ensuring the accuracy of breeding colony census data, updating birth information, and maintaining cage identification tags.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians with pregnancy monitoring of conscious marmosets using ultrasonography and update notice boards on projected parturition dates.
  • Participate in health checks and facility rounds, including close infant monitoring in the postnatal period.
  • Identify potential foster dams to assist in the event of infant rejection and update notice boards.
  • Assist with training animal husbandry technicians on proper marmoset husbandry techniques, cage security, identifying health concerns, diet preparation, etc.
  • Participate in the behavioral management plan, including monitoring social interactions of groups/pairs and implementing the marmoset enrichment program.
  • Coordinate/prepare enrichment materials, administer oral and parental drugs, collect samples, and prep animals for surgery.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Interest in and experience with nonhuman primate husbandry and veterinary technical work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Animal handling experience.
  • Proficiency with Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in animal science, biology, or related field.
  • LAT certification.
