Position Overview

The Veterinary Research Specialist will be an integral member of the Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), collaborating with a team of dedicated veterinarians committed to maintaining exemplary standards of animal care and supporting innovative research initiatives. This role involves providing comprehensive clinical veterinary services across various facilities, addressing the needs of both small and large animal species based on the candidate's expertise and the division's requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver extensive clinical veterinary support across multiple facilities.
  • Engage actively in the development and enhancement of animal models.
  • Provide training and mentorship to postdoctoral fellows, veterinary technicians, and research staff.
  • Contribute to the regulatory oversight of the animal care program.
  • Participate in collaborative and independent research projects as desired.

About DCM

The Division of Comparative Medicine serves as a vital resource for the care, development, and refinement of animal models within the research community. DCM is dedicated to providing outstanding clinical services and ensuring compliance with all animal-related research activities.


Qualifications

Required:
  • DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary institution or equivalent training with ECFVG certification.
  • License to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Preferred:
  • Formal training in comparative medicine with diplomate status in ACLAM or ECLAM.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in veterinary practice or training within a research context.
  • Expertise in rodent medicine, management, and surgical procedures.
  • Experience in germ-free facilities, aquatics, large animal anesthesia and surgery, and/or NHP medicine and management.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with researchers and mentor students.
