Job Summary

The Financial Management Analyst III provides coordination and direction for financial management, planning, budgeting, reporting, accounting and analysis activities within the Provost area management center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administers and coordinates across the management center various financial management processes and activities including strategic, operating, capital, and multi-year planning.
  • Facilitates accounting and compliance activities requiring a high degree of financial acumen.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for assigned units and represent Provost office on various aspects of budget and finance oversight.
  • Guide and collaborate through strong working relationships with key finance/business managers in various management center units.
Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Instruct unit finance leads/business manager with complex financial analysis and budget preparations.
  • Track and monitor performance against plans throughout the year.
  • Interact with senior academic and administrative officers to advise and assist with development and preparation of budget materials.
Financial Management and Control
  • Track and report on various funds that support Provost priorities including both endowment and university funds.
  • Work with academic leadership with oversight of sources of funds to capture and track commitments against them.
Advisory, Management Center Accounting Structure
  • Understand university accounting structures including fund flows and the interactions with the reporting.
  • Provide guidance and training to finance/business managers to ensure reporting is developed in a consistent and standard manner.
Management Center Policy, Internal Control
  • Complete all assigned units' management workflow approvals for journal entries, vouchers, and travel expenditures that meet thresholds established by central accounting or Provost leadership in compliance with university policy.
  • Assist Finance Director with tracking policy exception approvals authorized by the management center.
Financial Oversight - Strategic Finance Oversight
  • Assist Finance Director with strategic finance oversight for all Provost area centralized funding distributions including those designated for strategic initiatives, academic priorities and reserves.
  • Assist with creating reporting for strategic funding and share with senior leadership periodically.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Duke systems and policies.
  • Demonstrated success in staff supervision and performance management.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues.
