As a Principal Air Defense Systems Engineer at Sierra Nevada Corporation, you will be responsible for supporting the execution of a portfolio of Ground Based Air Defense programs within our Mission Systems Integration (MSI) directorate.

You will provide subject matter expertise to a product development team involved with the design and implementation of a Maneuver Short-Range Air Defense (MSHORAD) integrated system, as well as additional SHORAD related products.

Your role will involve researching, architecting, modeling, simulating, testing, certifying, and improving cutting-edge products and services in the Air Defense market specifically focused on MSHORAD and additional solutions building a layered defense family of systems.

You will develop complex system architectures within contextual modeling platforms, ushering them from operational concept through preliminary and detailed design, simulation, and test using progressive tools.

As a cross-functional engineer, you are in charge of system-level ownership of new products and processes through the product lifecycle.

The selected candidate will be one of the primary interfaces with the US Army customer and will also be a key contributor to customer technical relationships.

Additionally, the individual will be a critical member of proposal teams responsible for follow-on business and on contract growth as well as helping shape and lead its strategic direction and future growth to include IRAD.

The ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance), Aviation, and Security (IAS) business area is a leader in ISR and aviation, it is a leading prime manned and unmanned aircraft systems integrator for innovative, high-performance ISR and aviation systems.

Its end-to-end Command, Control, Computers, Communications and Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (C4ISR) capabilities encompass design, integration, test, certification, ground/flight training and complete logistics support.

IAS tailors solutions to customer cost, performance, and schedule requirements and designs to consistently exceed expectations – with an unrivaled record of on time and on (or under) budget deliveries.

Key Responsibilities:


Ensure program and company processes and engineering standards are adhered to in order to ensure consistency, quality, and safety across the technical team.

Ensure the adequacy of the overall engineering and technical design outputs of the product line.

You will be responsible for building and maintaining customer technical relationship with key customer representatives and several major suppliers.

Building a team including working with engineering managers and functional engineering leads to recruit, hire, train, and support the engineering team as they execute program design activities.

Supporting new and follow on business capture.

Creation of external and leadership facing marketing content.

Supporting critical capture meetings and summits.

Requirements:


Bachelor's of Science degree in System Engineering or related discipline and typically 14 or more years of relevant experience.

Higher education may substitute for relevant experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices.

Progressive experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams.

Advanced understanding of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles.

Preferred Qualifications:


Master's degree in engineering or related field.

Experience with requirements management and system modelling tools, such as DOORS, Rhapsody, NoMagic, MATLAB.

Advanced Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to requirements management, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE).

Experience or certification in INCOSE standards.

Security Clearance:


This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance.

The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants.

Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and illegal drug use.
