Job Summary:

  • This role will assist professional nurses in providing high-quality patient care, ensuring that our patients receive the best possible experience during their stay with us.
  • You will work closely with our nursing staff to complete assigned tasks, provide support, and maintain a safe and clean environment for our patients.

Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of NYU Langone Health's Core Values and incorporate them into your daily work.
  2. Show respect for patient confidentiality, dignity, and rights at all times.
  3. Take ownership of supplies, equipment, and environmental support on the unit.
  4. Assist in collecting data for our Quality and Performance Improvement Program, focusing on patient satisfaction and other key metrics.
  5. Work collaboratively with nurses to review and implement corrective action plans related to patient/family response and satisfaction.
  6. Recognize your own limitations and seek assistance when needed.
  7. Discuss educational concerns and goals with your Nurse Manager or appropriate leadership.
  8. Pursue learning resources to address identified learning needs.
  9. Participate in the orientation process for new patient care technicians and contribute to unit meetings and conferences.
  10. Complete annual mandatory education requirements for patient care technicians.
  11. Develop an awareness of the needs and behaviors of different patient age groups and cultures.
  12. Support unit activities as requested and assist in emergency situations as directed.
  13. Apply specialized skills and safety protocols when performing specific tasks, such as phlebotomy, fingersticks for glucose, and electrocardiograms.
  14. Demonstrate understanding of infection prevention and control standards.
  15. Contribute to data collection and activities as assigned, maintaining patient safety and comfort needs.
  16. Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge procedures per unit/service operations.
  17. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff, using verbal and non-verbal cues.
  18. Observe general behavior and report it to the registered nurse assigned to the patient.
  19. Provide assistance with patient activities as applicable.
  20. Complete delegated responsibilities as directed by the registered nurse.
  21. Use clear, caring, and respectful communication with patients, families, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
  22. Respond promptly to patient call lights and requests for assistance with personal care and activities.
  23. Report observations concerning patients to the registered nurse responsible for the patient.
  24. Offer direct assistance to team members, including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, physicians, and other healthcare employees.
  25. Assist in preparing patients for scheduled appointments.
  26. Run errands to other departments, delivering specimens and equipment as needed.
  27. Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment for patients and staff.
  28. Evaluate the need for necessary equipment and supplies in patient rooms and on the unit.

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • Graduate of PCT program with at least 6 months hospital experience
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the AHA required upon entry to the position
  • Competencies: Working knowledge of English evident in verbal reading and writing abilities; other language an asset; demonstrates ability in computer skills; proficiency in venipuncture and phlebotomy required

Estimated salary: $60,617.09 annually.
