Position Summary:

The Lead Mortgage Risk Analyst plays a crucial role in executing underwriting policies and overseeing the entire loan decision-making process. This position involves assessing the financial viability of loan applications, reviewing compliance with loan conditions, implementing fraud prevention measures, and evaluating credit risks to ensure the issuance of marketable loans. The analyst will communicate outcomes to relevant stakeholders and foster relationships with both internal teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough reviews of all Residential Transitional Lending (RTL) or Non-QM loan documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and adherence to company and industry standards.
  • Analyze transaction details and investor guidelines to confirm compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Evaluate appraisals, preliminary title documents, and purchase agreements.
  • Assess credit risks to guarantee that the company's financial exposure results in a marketable loan.
  • Implement and uphold fraud detection protocols.
  • Request additional information as needed to support loan assessments.
  • Identify risk factors that may jeopardize the quality of loan files.
  • Make timely loan decisions and review conditions, with an expected output of four underwriting decisions daily.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Encompass is essential.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Comprehensive understanding of various mortgage documentation.
  • Familiarity with RTL terminology, calculations, and file assessments, with the ability to evaluate submitted conditions and suggest alternatives when necessary.
  • Solid knowledge of investor underwriting and selling guidelines.
  • Understanding of income calculation methods for Non-QM loans, including analysis of tax returns and bank statements.
  • Ability to stay informed about evolving guidelines and policies.
  • Capability to follow both written and verbal instructions effectively.
  • Skill in analyzing extensive financial data.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in mortgage banking and RTL underwriting.
  • A proven history of processing three to five new files daily and conditioning four to six files each day.
  • Hands-on experience with comprehensive underwriting activities, encompassing both operational and analytical tasks.

Work Environment:

This role is primarily office-based and involves significant computer use. While remote work is an option, the position may also require occasional business travel. The work environment is typically quiet, with moderate noise levels.
