Role Overview

The Director of Culinary Services is responsible for overseeing, organizing, and managing the dietary department, which provides essential food and nutrition services to residents in a long-term care setting. This role involves leading exceptional dining initiatives that enhance the meal experience for residents while ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, interview, and onboard dietary personnel.
  • Train staff on operational procedures and equipment maintenance.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise departmental functions and activities.
  • Evaluate the performance and quality of work of department staff.
  • Forecast supply needs and manage procurement of food and equipment.
  • Develop staffing schedules to guarantee adequate service delivery.
  • Maintain comprehensive records, including inventory and compliance documentation.
  • Conduct regular management meetings and liaise with other departments to coordinate dietary services.
  • Implement a budget-conscious program to manage costs effectively.
  • Ensure the department is always prepared for inspections and adheres to regulations.
  • Foster positive relationships with residents, visitors, and community departments.
  • Participate actively in facility meetings and committees.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Encourage professional growth and development within the department.
  • Conduct quality assurance inspections to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Report on departmental initiatives, goals, and achievements.
  • Monitor and promote resident satisfaction.
  • Ensure the food service operation is maintained in a clean and safe manner.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or higher in food service management or hospitality, with a focus on food service or restaurant management.
  • Required supervisory experience in food service; experience in long-term care is preferred.
  • ServSafe Certification for Managers from the National Restaurant Association.
  • Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) or Certified Food Protection Professional (CFPP) credentials.
  • Proficient in motivating and supervising team members.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer service.
  • Able to work under pressure and achieve established objectives.
  • Public speaking and excellent stress management skills.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and follow-through capabilities.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts as required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other Windows-based software.
