The Pharmacy Technician Specialist operates under the guidance of licensed pharmacists, providing essential support in the medication management process. Key Responsibilities
- Assists in the preparation of medications by selecting, counting, compounding, packaging, and labeling according to established protocols.
- Handles incoming calls and assists customers at the pharmacy service counter.
- Processes patient medication charges and adjustments as necessary.
- Maintains optimal inventory levels in dispensing areas, which may include prepackaging or assembling medications for future use.
- Operates and manages advanced pharmacy automation systems, including reporting and maintenance tasks.
- Demonstrates proficiency in pharmacy computer systems and provides training to colleagues on basic system operations.
- Conducts inspections of pharmacy and medication units to ensure compliance with standards.
- Receives and stocks medication orders, ensuring timely delivery to patient care areas.
- Performs advanced operations in the outpatient pharmacy, including managing prescription fulfillment and operating cash registers when required.
- Accurately obtains and documents patient medication histories as applicable.
- Participates in the training and mentoring of new pharmacy technicians, students, and residents, providing constructive feedback on their performance.
Qualifications
Credentials:
Essential: Registered Pharmacy Technician in North Carolina, National Pharmacy Technician Certification.
Education:
Essential: High School Diploma.
Experience:
Minimum of one year as a pharmacy technician or two years of healthcare experience, or completion of an ASHP accredited pharmacy technology program with one year of healthcare experience.
