United Airlines is embarking on an extraordinary journey to redefine the future of aviation. As a Director of Aerospace Affairs, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our company's legislative and regulatory agenda at the state and local level. With a strong focus on the West Coast markets, including California, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada, you will lead civic engagement strategies across the region.

About the Role:

This is a leadership position that requires driving success on major legislation and policy initiatives supporting United Airlines' business goals. You will help draft legislative or report language when necessary, negotiate with partners, and develop effective relationships with government, community, and business leaders.

  • Drive and support success on key legislation and policy initiatives related to taxes, airport development, environmental issues, labor laws, security protocols, passenger rights, and consumer protection.
  • Help create and implement strategic plans to advance United Airlines' corporate interests by promoting diligent participation in aviation policy and building constructive relationships with government, community, and business leaders.
  • Maintain accurate knowledge of hearings, monitor bill introductions, and track legislative processes relevant to aviation policy.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with lawmakers, key staff, airport leadership, and other partners; assist in decision-making regarding the PAC and attending political events.
  • Provide leadership, issue, and project management expertise, ensuring seamless coordination with internal departments (Communications, Legal, Corporate Real Estate) to achieve company objectives.
  • Support the Managing Director of State and Local Government Affairs in coordinating efforts.
  • Build coalitions with aviation partners to promote broad support for critical aviation issues.
  • Engage and mentor external consultants/lobbyists as part of a well-respected team.
  • Promote internal and external strategies, policies, and resources to foster a positive image of United Airlines as a responsible corporate citizen in hub markets.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in relevant fields, such as legislative, regulatory, or political process at the state and local level of government.
  • Substantive expertise in state and local governance, ideally with more than 7 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with legislative, regulatory, and political processes at the state and local level.
  • Results-driven self-starter with exceptional writing and presentation skills.
  • Able to articulate clear goals and objectives, with a proven track record of influencing and collaborating effectively.
  • Maturity and ability to inspire change in complex environments.
  • Understanding of industry dynamics and ability to share ideas and develop effective responses.
  • Proven leadership capability.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Reliable attendance essential.
  • The position is fully remote but preferably based in Los Angeles or San Francisco.
