As a member of the Richmond Police Department, you will be part of a dedicated team committed to community policing. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Safeguarding individuals and property
  • Maintaining public order
  • Preventing criminal activities
  • Managing traffic control
  • Conducting specialized administrative or investigative tasks
  • Documenting incidents through report writing

The current base annual salary for a sworn Police Officer ranges from $116,000 to $134,000. In addition, the City offers a comprehensive benefits package that may include:

Eligibility Requirements:

To qualify for the Lateral Police Officer position, applicants must:

  • Currently be employed as a police or peace officer in California
  • Have successfully completed a probationary period in a comparable peace officer classification
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Have completed a minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter college units by the time of appointment
  • Hold a valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Meet specific vision and hearing standards
  • Have no felony convictions

Automatic Disqualifiers:

Applicants will be disqualified for:

  • Felony convictions
  • Domestic violence convictions
  • Crimes involving moral turpitude
  • Recent drug use

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement:

All new hires must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including the booster shot, and provide proof of vaccination or an approved accommodation prior to employment.
