Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and institute VCUPD's mission statement, successfully handling assignments issued by the Sergeant, Lieutenant, and or Captain.
  • Actively identify problems, establishing action planning to solve issues.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Work collaboratively with other employees to achieve common goals.
  • Interact physically and psychologically with a diverse population in stressful environments.

Requirements:

  • Certification as a Virginia Law Enforcement Officer or completion of police academy, field training, and maintenance of VA DCJS law enforcement certification.
  • Virginia motor vehicle driver's license and a clear driving record.
  • No felony convictions, crimes involving moral turpitude, or domestic violence.
  • Birth certificate and passing of a polygraph, drug test, and physical examination by a licensed physician.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and provide high levels of responsiveness and customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Excellent working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and ordinances, rules and regulations of VCU, and the rules and regulations of the VCU Police Department.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage a variety of projects and work independently.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range: $58,000 - $63,000.
