Job Overview

As a Senior Backend Software Engineer at Visa, you will be an integral part of our Connectivity team, collaborating with various departments to enhance and maintain our integrations with financial institutions across the U.S. This role is pivotal in driving Visa's open banking initiatives and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our services.

The Connectivity team is essential to Visa's operations, working in tandem with product and commercial teams to deliver cutting-edge open banking solutions. Your contributions will be vital in supporting Visa's growth in the U.S. market by guaranteeing the performance and quality of our offerings.

In this position, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of our connectivity services, aiming to connect with over 10,000 financial institutions, thereby enabling Visa to deliver top-tier open banking products.

Collaboration is key in this role; you will work closely with our development teams to maintain high standards for our connections and partner with internal engineering and platform teams to create optimal solutions for our clients.

Your innovative thinking and technical expertise will significantly influence the architectural direction of our products. By establishing best practices and new methodologies for feature development, you will play a crucial role in our ongoing journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of critical components within projects.
  • Work alongside senior engineers and stakeholders to identify and resolve bottlenecks, streamline dependencies, and clarify component boundaries within Visa's architecture.
  • Develop and manage our data processing infrastructure, handling billions of data points monthly.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members involved in these components.
  • Set standards for new product features.
  • Collaborate with Technical Product Managers to decompose solutions into manageable tasks.
  • Assist operational teams in troubleshooting, defect analysis, and root cause investigations.
  • Engage with various teams to diagnose and resolve issues affecting our customers.

This position offers a hybrid work model, allowing you to balance remote work with in-office collaboration. Hybrid employees are expected to work in the office a few designated days each week, depending on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 5 years with an advanced degree, or 2 years with a PhD.

Preferred Qualifications:
• At least 9 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 7 years with an advanced degree, or 3 years with a PhD.

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Math, Science, Engineering, or Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

• Proficiency in Java or other backend programming languages.

• Familiarity with CI/CD practices, Docker, and Kubernetes.

• Experience in designing and utilizing REST APIs.

• Strong knowledge of Spring Technologies.

• Proven experience in architecting secure, resilient, and scalable solutions.

• Hands-on experience in system design for large-scale projects, including user interfaces, data structures, and cloud architecture.

• Previous involvement in establishing standards and leading knowledge-sharing initiatives within engineering teams.

Additional Information:

• Work hours may vary based on departmental needs.

• This role may require occasional travel (5-10% of the time).

• The position will be conducted in an office environment, requiring the ability to sit and stand at a desk, communicate effectively, and operate standard office equipment.
