Job Title: SQL Server Database Engineer

About the Role:

As a SQL Server Database Engineer at Vertafore, you will be responsible for designing and implementing performant code in a large-scale Microsoft SQL Server production environment. You will work with a skilled team of engineers and developers to provide tangible, measurable improvements for customers. Your expertise in T-SQL development and performance optimization will be essential in optimizing existing/legacy code and participating in feature development.

Responsibilities:

Produce and optimize complex T-SQL code, both new and existing.
Analyze code, statistics, and execution plans to diagnose performance issues and identify areas for optimization.
Maintain and create technical documentation for database-related subject areas for internal use.
Participate in SQL code review to ensure quality, performance, and adherence to coding standards.
Work with business users for production issues and provide system solutions.
Assist software engineers with the design and development of complex SQL queries and stored procedures, focusing on helping the team interact with the database as efficiently and productively as possible.

Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or similar field or related work experience.
Work experience in database engineering, database administration, or related field.
3+ years of experience in T-SQL development.
1+ years DBE experience in T-SQL performance optimization.
Knowledge of querying, normalization, transactions, indexing, and joins.
Experience with relational database design.
Experience with source/version control.
Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot.
Ability to multi-task and adapt to change.
Desire and ability to learn technologies quickly.
Good oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

2+ years of dedicated experience in T-SQL development in MS SQL Server.
SQL Server 2016+ development experience.
1+ years of Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud experience.
1+ years of DevOps experience.
1+ years of experience with database(s) other than SQL Server (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Oracle, etc.).
Experience with multi-tenant systems.
Familiarity with C# and .NET programming.
Familiarity with software development life cycle (SDLC).
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
