Position Overview:
The Ophthalmic Assistant and Imaging Specialist plays a crucial role in executing advanced ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic assessments. This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of ocular conditions and expertise in operating and maintaining ophthalmic diagnostic apparatus. Continuous skill enhancement and familiarity with emerging technologies and diagnostic methodologies are essential. The specialist must be well-versed in the daily operations of ophthalmology and provide support to physicians as required. The Ophthalmic Assistant will consistently exhibit Patient-Centered Care, Collaboration, and Excellence in their daily responsibilities.
This position demands self-motivation, adaptability, punctuality, attention to detail, effective time management, and exceptional communication abilities.
Qualifications, Licenses & Certifications:
Completion of the Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) is mandatory within the initial three weeks, along with the completion of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Home Study Course in Ophthalmic Assisting within the first six months of employment for candidates lacking certification.
Experience:
Preferred candidates will hold certification as Ophthalmic Photographers or Ophthalmic Assistants or Technicians; however, those with relevant clinical experience will also be considered.
Proficiency in computer usage and familiarity with Windows-based operating systems is required; candidates should be self-starters with a capacity to acquire new skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct, document, and communicate findings from ophthalmic diagnostic evaluations. 2. Execute basic maintenance, upgrades, and data backup procedures on diagnostic equipment and software in accordance with departmental protocols. 3. Review and manage diagnostic schedules for efficiency, addressing orders and errors. Collaborate with clinical teams to adjust schedules per departmental guidelines and provider preferences. 4. Educate patients, clarify diagnostic testing procedures, and assist patients in completing studies as directed by providers. 5. Stay updated with documentation and reimbursement standards, as well as accepted ophthalmology terminology and abbreviations. 6. Serve as a liaison among patients, providers, and ophthalmology personnel. 7. Maintain an inventory of supplies and pharmaceutical products, ensuring cleanliness of the diagnostic testing area as per departmental protocols. Verify the expiration of medications and supplies in line with established policies. 8.
Responsible for the cleaning and sterilization of office instruments, performing basic maintenance, quality control, and ensuring cleanliness and organization of ophthalmic exam rooms and ancillary equipment according to organizational and departmental standards.
9. Attend mandatory staff and educational meetings as required.Additional Responsibilities:
1. Facilitate orientation and training for new staff and identify opportunities to educate other team members. 2. May require travel to various locations as necessary. 3. Provide coverage throughout the department as an ophthalmic assistant when needed. 4. Manage phone communications, schedule appointments, and assist with patient lists. Pay Range $16.68-$26.42.
