As a key member of the Scotiabank US Research Department, the Analyst in Technology Equity Research plays a vital role in driving the success of our team. This position is focused on delivering insights and analysis that support our business strategies and objectives while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. **Client Engagement:**
- Foster a customer-centric culture to enhance client relationships and leverage the broader resources of the Bank.
2. **Research and Analysis:**
- Collaborate with the Senior Analyst on daily tasks, including the development and refinement of forecasting models.
- Maintain up-to-date information on selected companies and monitor both domestic and global economic trends.
- Review daily news sources for pertinent information affecting macroeconomic, industry-specific, and company-specific factors.
3. **Communication:**
- Engage with company management to gather insights on events that may influence performance.
- Draft comprehensive research reports that articulate company-specific recommendations and analyze various economic developments.
4. **Collaboration:**
- Work closely with the Senior Analyst on launching new company coverage and developing thematic research reports.
- Partner with technology colleagues and analysts across regions to produce industry and company reports, as well as coordinate corporate events.
5. **Support Sales and Trading:**
- Assist sales and trading teams in communicating effectively with investors.
- Facilitate marketing efforts by organizing meetings with industry contacts.
6. **Risk Management:**
- Understand and incorporate the Bank's risk appetite and culture into daily operations and decision-making.
7. **Operational Excellence:**
- Strive for efficient operations while adhering to Scotiabank's values and conduct standards.
Qualifications:
- A university degree is required, preferably in business (finance, economics, accounting), engineering, or computer science.
- Relevant FINRA designations (Series 7, 63, 86, and 87) are necessary.
- Strong analytical, financial modeling, and accounting skills are essential.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a financial or analytical role within the technology sector is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are crucial.
- Familiarity with Capital Markets is advantageous.
- Experience with Bloomberg and FactSet is a plus.
- Professional designations such as P.Eng, MBA, or CPA/CA, or progress in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program are beneficial.
- Strong judgment and decision-making capabilities are important.
- Ability to thrive under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- A proactive, detail-oriented, and self-motivated approach is essential.
